What we practiced this week- November 15th

Violin 2:40

  • Has students review proper bow holds with the example of wrist like a jellyfish, have fingers hang like a monkey, and grab the banana
  • They will finish fixing one of the students violins broken E string
  • Had students say out loud pages 8 and 10 reading the notes and rest out loud
  • Homework is pages 11 and 12
 

Piano 3:15

  • Had students perform in class hot cross buns and french fries
  • Play the game of tell me what each rhythm looks like
  • Homework is pages 8 and 9
 

Strings 3:50

  • Reviewed pages 8 and 9 in class about playing E and F# on the D string
  • Played hot cross buns in class
  • Homework is pages 10 and 11

  • Each student worked on saying The rhythms and letters out loud as they played them

Violin 2:40

  • As students repeat that acronym eats apples donuts grapes to learn the strings
  • Played open string exercises on page 8 and 9.
  • Add individual solos play page 10 and assigned exercises six and seven for homework
 

Piano 3:15

  • Has students repeat their piano number fingers from one to five
  • Add each to describe the shape of a quarter note and half note, and what length each one is
  • Started working on page six with G as the new note
  • Homework is Page six
 

Strings 3:50

  • Continue teaching the students each open string
  • Worked on string crossings for D and A
  • Homework is Page 6 exercises 16 through 19

Piano 2:40

  • Hi guys! We’re making consistent progress which is great, we just need to remember to keep our eyes towards the teacher and our keyboards off until it’s time to play.
  • Make sure to look at #8, 10, 12 this week for homework.
 

Winds 3:15

  • We’re making prettier sounding notes more consistently so give yourselves a hand!
  • This week please practice #5-8.
  • Once we play through those next class we’re goin gto learn some new notes so make sure we can get through them quickly!

  • Very good progress this week guys.
  • We learned a new rhythm and will soon be playing new notes so please make sure to practice #15 an #16 because we might have a playing test next class!

Violin 2:40

  • Said out loud the different string acronyms for the violin.
  • Played page 8 in class.
  • Homework is pages 8 and 9.
 

Piano 3:15

  • Played pages 4 and 5 in class for review 
  • Made sure to say are letters out loud for quarter and half notes.
  • Costumes how to describe a quarter note and a half note
  • Homework is pages 5 and 6
 

Strings 3:50

  • How students assemble their violins with the shoulder pad.
  • Played page 4 in class 
  • Showed how to set up the cello.
  • Showed how to put rosin on the bows.
  • Homework is Page 6.

  • For this week, we should be working on pages 6 #’s 8-10
 

Winds 3:15

  • Remember to keep your lips firm when blowing, specifically for clarinets make sure that your bottom lip is a bit over your bottom teeth.
  • This week we’ll be looking at pages 2 and 3, #5-8.
 

Piano 3:50

  • Good progress this week! Make sure to practice our c,d,e, and g notes with our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th fingers respectively.
  • Homework this week will be pages 8 and 9, #’s 12-15.

  • worked on the learning the strings and how to describe a quarter notes
  • Played quarter notes on the E and A string
  • Homework is pg 8-9
 

Piano 3:15

  • Review are piano fingers and how to describe a quarter or half notes
  • Played pg 4-6 in class
  • Homework is pg 6-7
 

Strings 3:50

  • Worked on how to hold the bow properly
  • Played pg 4-5 in class
  • Homework is pg 5-6

Piano 2:40

  • Good progress was made this week!
  • Now that we feel more confident with our first few notes, we can move ahead in the book with numbers 4-9.
  • Remember to keep your thumb centered on the middle c and the other notes should be right beneath your other fingertips!
 

Winds 3:15

  • Very nice sounding tones today guys!
  • Clarinets, remember to be careful with your reeds when setting up and tearing down.
  • Trombone make sure to push your slide fully into the main body of the instrument before playing.
  • Try to work on # 3-6 at least and keep focusing on breathing through your stomachs and using the ab muscles to blow the air out.
 

Piano 3:50

  • Another fun class down, and smooth progress being made! We introduced a new note today, the E!
  • Make sure to get comfortable with #8-14 in the book, and go nice and slow whenever something seems a bit more difficult.

What we practiced this week- October 4th

Violin 2:40

  • Helped students learn how to take instruments out of the cases.
  • Taught students how to hold their instruments.
  • Show students how to take out the bow.
  • Had them learn all the strings and acronym for the strings.
  • Homework is the pg 2-4 in the blue book.
  • Make sure to bring a pencil for next class
 

Piano 3:15

  •  We learned middle C and where D is and also piano fingers.

  • Worked on pages 2-5.

  • Homework is to preview pages 2-5

 

Strings 3:50

  • Taught students how to take out their instruments and how to hold them.

  • Taught what letter each string note.

  • Worked on bowing and plucking the first few exercises.

  • Homework is pg 2-4.

Piano 2:40

  • Learned our finger numbers (1 is thumb, 2 is index etc.), as well as finding and playing the middle C and D notes.
  • Practice the first two pages of the book!
 

Winds 3:15

– Learned high notes vs low notes
– Learned the musical alphabet
– Identified notes on the staff
– Please review high/low notes and the musical alphabet

  • practice breathing and blowing using our stomachs,
  • Practice setting up your instruments, and playing the first and second notes in the book. (pages 1-3)
