Practice the following music December 6th

Mr. Jamie’s Classes

Winds 2:40

  • We started by warming up by section on our first and second note
We moved onto Skateboard Sam and continued sequentially in the book from there
Almost everyone can comfortably play Puppy Dogs, Our Fourth Note, and Apple For Teacher
Several students can go much further. HW for them is to continue and check in with me weekly.
  • HW for Nathan and Johnny is Keep On Blowin’. Happy Birthday Johnny!
  • HW for Everyone Else is to finish pg. 6

Winds 3:20

  • Saxes played Hot Cross Buns nicely, but are having trouble applying that to sight reading in the book.
  • We started by warming up sectionally, Trombones did extra notes to make up for still missing books. Then when we played together Trombones played the notes they knew in rhythm with the class.
  • Trombones and Brass need to avoid resting their instruments on desks and other things when they play.
  • We jumped into Our Fifth Note and Bumper cars.
  • We needed to back up a little so we reviewed 3rd and 4th note, various rhythms, and listened to Jamie play pg. 6
  • While we did this I had a sidebar with Lennox to show him how to put his clarinet together and start playing.
  • When we tried again it sounded great.
  • Stephanie did an AMAZING job helping Lennox the rest of the way, but I still want Lennox to visit the Orchestra Place Clarinet page.
  • HW is to finish pg. 6 and move on. Bonus: #21 Dreydl, Dreydl. #36 Jingle Bells

Practice the following music November 15th

Mr. Jamie’s Classes

Winds 2:40

  • First we went over assembly. Any friends who had trouble this past week were helped and for the most part everyone’s good.
  • Next we checked on how to hold the instrument correctly. Same as before – individuals who were behind were brought on board. The biggest issue was Clarinet fingers 😉
  • Then we reviewed how to blow into our respective instruments by sections, using the first two notes. Everyone still needs to work on their embouchure but is making great progress.
  • For the rest of class, we played Funny Pair as a class, then in sections.
  • All of them should have books now, but I was short on books for the second class.
  • HW is Skateboard Sam
  •

Winds 3:20

  • First we went over assembly.
  • Next we checked on how to hold the instrument correctly.
  • For the rest of class, we played from Skateboard Sam on as a class.
  • HW is to go as far as possible in the book and report back for Clarinets and Trumpets. For the Saxophones who did not get books, it’s Hot Cross Buns as follows: B A G / B A G / G G G G / A A A A / B A G. Trombones sound great in 3rd and 4th position so I want them to try to learn a few more notes and report back.
