What we practiced this week- November 30th
Mr. Brandon’s Classes
Violin 1:45
- All students played a performance from the piano book, on page 9
- the students played French Fries or Going home
- ended with students describing the quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes
- homework is on pages 8-9
Piano 2:20
- students played Rain Rain Go Away on page 27 in class
- Taught students about dotted quarter notes and single eight notes, and how to cross over the thumb to play B

Violins 2:55
- Reviewed what fingers are used for F# and E on the D string
- The class played Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had A Little Lamb in class

Advanced Strings 3:30
- Played the D major Scale in class on page 1
- Taught the class how to play Jingle Bells

- The class learned how to play C, D, and E on the ukulele
- Taught the students how to read Quarter notes and whole notes

Mr. Alex’s Classes
Piano 1:45
- In class, we did Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as our warm-up.
- We moved on to trying the first line of My Dog and Me, which has us again moving our right hand pinky up to the A note and back down again to G.
- We then learned about our right AND left hand position, with the new notes being G and low C on the left hand!
- Eventually every student was able to learn the song Knock Knock; however the challenge is playing Lefty Two Note. Practice this one!!
- Homework: pages 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23; try page 18 for a challenge!
Flutes 2:30
- During flute class, we did some warm-up pieces to get the hang of transitioning from B note to D note (a hard switch on flute); and once again, we worked on playing Jingle Bells!This time, the D note is getting more solid and memorized. Just practice being able to transition from D to other notes in our songs!Homework: pages 10 – 16; Jingle Bells!
Winds 3:00
- In class, we did a warm-up of Crazy Tonguing, then went on to Yankee Doodle Cha Cha on page 13.We also played the fun song Cabbage Song, and finally learned our new note on page 15. We were able to play some of Old MacDonald Had A Farm too! Finally, we are starting to learn the song Jingle Bells on page 19.Homework: pages 10 – 16; page 19
Intermediate Winds 3:30
- In class, we did Hatikvah, Ode To Joy, Jingle Bells, and the Can Can all from the dark blue/green music books!Homework: Hatikvah, Ode To Joy, Jingle Bells, Can-Can, William Tell Overture; everyone please bring the dark blue Best Beginning books so that we can work on other songs all together in that book.

- Had students do punching rhythm exercises for half notes and quarter notes
- Had students play individually pages four and five by themselves
- Making students write out the letter they’re playing and length of rhythm for each exercise on page 5
- Homework is page 5
- Reminder for all students to bring a pencil for next class
Piano 2:20
- Continue working with two handed piano parts on page 23
- Had students played cha cha cha, Lefty two note, and bass clef Frank
- Homework is working on more hot cross buns and rain rain Go away, on pages 26 and 27
Violins 2:55
- Class got to learn the ant song today
- Add students play pages five and six in class individually as solos
- Should students how to put rosin on their bow and how to properly hold it
- Begin showing students how to put first finger E on both violin and cello
- Homework is page eight exercise 20 through 23
Advanced Strings 3:30
- Had students work on D major scale exercise in the green book
- That students play Sakura Japanese folksong on page 13 of the green book
- For second group I need the yellow brown book for cello to make sure all students have the same arrangement of tunes

- Had students work on their G7 chord in class
- Had students play Mary had a Little Lamb on page 4
- Worked on eighth note up and down strokes for page 5
- Homework is Skip to My Lou on page 7 incorporating the G7 chord

Piano 1:45
- In class, we practiced our eighth notes again with the Cabbage and Lettuce songs. Then, we did Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, with our pinky moving up to the A note!
- Homework: pages 12, 13, 15 and 16
Flutes 2:30
- We tried solidifying our notes that we’ve already learned, and even got to playing the challenging song Dreydl Dreydl.
- Work on getting those fingerings memorized, especially from the note D to B.
- Homework: pages 8 – 14
Winds 3:00
- In class, we managed to get to the tough song Dreydl Dreydl on page 10, as well as our new note on page 11 and Crazy Tonguing. Practice these pages at home!
- Homework: pages 9 – 13
Intermediate Winds 3:30
- In class, we once again played some more challenging pieces, such as the Can-Can in the dark blue-green winds book, and the William Tell Overture in the same book.
- We also did some review songs like Erie Canal and Ode To Joy. Our notes for harder pieces are getting easier.
- Homework: Can-Can, William Tell Overture; everyone please bring the dark blue Best Beginning books so that we can work on other songs all together in that book.
